I am an 80 year old and not of the computer generation. I'm hoping someone here can help me, it would spare me the $150 I know my computer man will charge me.

I have a home network by linksys. Today, 1 of our 3 computers lost network access; the other 2 work fine.

The computer in question was working fine until I made 2 changes. I downloaded Mozilla Firefox & deleted McAfee Security. I did the latter from the Windows delete program menu, I did not touch anything more complicated.

Following that, my network has "limited or no connectivity" even though there is good signal strength. When I click on this notice & choose to 'Repair', it does not work, but states that the following action can not be completed: "renewing your IP address".

I looked up this address under the 'details' section & noted that it was not listed under the 'safe' section on my main computer's Zone Alarm software. I manually added it, but this did not help.

Later another notice comes up & says "SPORDER.dll" is not found. I looked for this file under Windows help & found nothing on it. On the Web I get conflicting information, some say it is a useful file while others say it is spyware.

In any event, I deleted AdAware & SpyBot to see if that would help but it did not. I tried re-installing Windows, but apparently my XP version on the computer is newer than the one I have on disk. I tried installing the ancillary files such as IE, Windows Explorer, etc, but this did not work. The message about SPORDER re-appeared, however.

I also deleted Firefox. This did not help either.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

Ok, deleting things is not always good. Spybot, Ad-Aware and Firefox are all top notch and odds are not your problem. Clicking repair simply trys to renew your ip address with your internet provider, in your situation, it may not be of help.

The information you found on the internet is correct. sporder.dll CAN be spyware, but can also be not. Great, huh?

I would do the spyware tutorial to be sure your clean.

I would also check startup for suspicious items.
