Hi, i recently bought a PC and although the specs are not bad the case is ugly and long story short, im thinking of getting a black case.

unfortunatly the CD drives are grey... good or bad idea to spray them black?

what "kind" of spray would i have to use? ( apart from black lol :p )

    Thanks.

ISR......Some of the other geeks here have mentioned something about using some kind of vinyl dye purchased at auto parts stores, for coloring the plastic parts of cases etc. I never looked into it myself, but they said it got good results. I would imagine that would be better than spraying. Sorry I couldn't give you any "first hand" info about it, but if you search the forums, you might find the threads about it. Unless someone else steps in and posts the info here. I'd be too afraid to spray them, for fear that spray could "fume" into some place it shouldn't. The faceplates can be easily removed to spray, but I'm not sure about the disk drawer itself. If you removed and sprayed the faceplate, the front of the drawer would still be it's original color, unless your drives have those spring loaded doors that flip up or down to cover the actual drawer. Cuz those would be part of the faceplate.

I recently bought a new black case, however, my CD/DVD drive was beige. It was already out of my old system, so I taped everything off real nice and neat got a paperclip to stick in the little hole to open the bay door just enough to get the edges but not so much that it would get inside. I bought some black spray paint and started off by misting a "tac" coat. let it sit for a few minutes and added another light coat and so on. The key is several light coats if you are going to spray your drive. it worked for me with no problems and looks great. i did my PSU as well. :)

Id suggest the faceplate too. I have one on my case and its really nice. helps to keep everything sleek. also concider spraying as well, because adding a faceplate will save you while its closed, but when u open it, ugh, beige.

    just my 2 cents.

Take the disk tray, the tray cover, and bezel off and just spray them. thats what i did about a year ago with my old computer.

I've painted faceplates without problems, just used cheap Krylon spray paint from Walmart $1.99 a can
I have also use permanet magic marker, sounds cheap but worked awsome, mark it let dry, mark again (Sharpie, black, matched my case perfectly) $.99
