I am using firefox and I checked to see if it is excepting cookies and it is. I completely uninstalled spybot and I still can't sign into excite.:zzz I close the virus protection I have ... still nothing. :yum I when into the program files and anywhere else spy bot was not uninstalled and did it manually ... still nothing. rolleyes

Re-install SpyBot, go through the immunize routine again. Then use SpyBot's "Undo" option to undo(cancel) the immunization. Then un-install SpyBot.

That did the job ... why couldn't I get it to stop doing that after uninstalling it?

The immunize feature of SpyBot makes changes to the "trusted zones" of the popular browsers. It also modifies the "HOSTS" file.

To reverse those changes manually, you would have to edit the "HOSTS" file and edit each web browse's "trusted zone".

When you un-install SpyBot the immunizations remain in place unless you use the SpyBot "Undo" immunization option first.

I believe it is a similar situation with SpywareBlaster, although it doesn't modify the "HOSTS" file. If you want immunization, SpywareBlaster is what I would recommend.

I believe that SpyBot's "immunizations" were nothing more than entries in your HOSTS file. The site was probably listed there and given your own computer's IP address ([FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]127.0.0.1). So everytime you tried to go to Excite.com, the Hosts file routed your browser back to your own computer rather than look up the real IP address for the site. I'm probably not explaining that very well. Check out this site for a better explanation:

Yeppers. If uninstalling SpywareBlaster one has to Disable All Protection first, then close SpywareBlaster prior to removing the software in Programs/Features and then reboot. I wouldn't want to surf the net without it!

Thought that was the case oma, don't remember when I last un-installed SpywareBlaster.

When both SpyBot's immunization feature and SpywareBlaster are used, if you "Undo" SpyBot's immunization it will also "Disable" some of SpywareBlaster's immunizations.

Yep, I've SpywareBlaster on all Windows computers here.
