Spy-Bot Question.

Hi,
When I run Sppybot, it tells me I have no threats, but does say above this
(ungultiger daten type fur ")
winpup32

I thought winpup32 was a nasty, so I went to Pestpatrol home page and found out about it. I then followed their instructions for its removal, but nowhere could I find any trace of winpup32.
Roughly translated the German phrase says "wrong type of data for " ", whatever " means!
Can I take it that I do not have winpup32, and if so how do I get rid of that message?

windows xp sp1
512 meg ram
80 gig hdd

All updates current.

Are you running Spybot in German?

And is this behavior repeatable after rebooting?

According to Spybot, in Advanced Mode > Settings > Ignore Products > Trojans tab, winpup32 is aka Trojan.Adclicker. I found some info on that, mostly how Norton can't remove it. Have you run a virus scan with updated defs lately, that might pick it up (assuming you don't have Norton ), or you could try http://housecall.trendmicro.com

But before you do an AV scan, dump your temporary internet files (saw one example of it being in there), disable System Restore and reboot. Then scan with Ad-aware and Spybot again and see if you get the same message. If you're clean then you can enable SR.

@ Billy, sorry mate I didn`t put the question very well. I should have said I cant find winpup on my computer. I don`t think I have any infections, its just that Spybot is showing me this message in German, and I wondered if I could get rid of it easily. Thanks.

I also do not sem to get many updates from Spybot, whereas the other anti-virus , spyware and malware progroms update frequently.

No , I am running the normal English version.
Yes is is repeatable and occurs after reboot.

 

Couldn't hurt. There are uninstall instructions at their website.

 

I got the same German message when running Spy Bot S&D. Did you ever find the problem? How did you solve it?
