I have used Spy Sweeper for a year now and have been somewhat satisfied however for the last few month it has taken 2 hours or more to scan. Ridiculous ...use there is a comparable or analogous freeware program out there that you would recommend ? I have CCleaner and Norton working also.

    Thanks Much,

    Schaeffdog :confused

    Hi

I would stick to SpySweeper if its the retail one, but if not then I would likely move to MalwareBytes or SuperAntispyware, these days as their is more malware to scan for some scans are now taking longer and longer.

This is what I use as well and I would add that I use SpyBot mainly for the immunization features and only scan with it monthly (It's Host file immunization is especially nice and automatic). I also scan weekly with MalwareBytes. I also disable ActiveX in IE, installed IE7Pro, and use FireFox with AdBlock Plus and Download Statusbar (with this add-on, I'm able to easily have Avast! scan each download). I've never had a virus or spyware problem and my 6 yr. old computer is still relatively snappy.

I have used spysweeper for years and love it. I love the sheilds and it's not intrusive. It's the only pay application I've kept. I'll have to see how long the scan takes? I have to ask though why it matters. Mine is minimized and I have no problem using my computer while it's scanning.

::eek:ff to scan to check the amount of time it takes::

I personally keep a larger arsenal.
WinPatrol, SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard loading and watching on Startup.
SuperAntiSpyware and MalwareBytes as on demand scanners.
Avira AntiVir and Comodo firewall as main defenses.

We use Avast AV with Windows firewall or Online Armor, scan with Malwarebytes on occasion, always delete web browser cache after surfing, and never save passwords. If I want to get stupid and just click away pop in a Linux live CD. AVG has a nice feature when browsing using Google but updates have been troublesome and have contracted a virus or two on others machines I have installed it on. No perfect solution, sandbox and Steady State are also available, need to look at running a virtual machine again as well. Just my dimes worth, trying to get back to enjoying the web, and not be too paranoid about the the occasional drive by or throw down...:mad

Try the free version of MalwareBytes. You'll be impressed. There is also a a paid version which has real time protection and will work alongside your antivirus and firewall.

Well, it seems that 2 hours is way too long. A full scan for me took 24 minutes.

If you have paid for Spysweeper and are happy with it besides the 2 hour scan, you should figure out why it is taking so long.

Thanks Laura...I updated the Spysweeper software and so we see if that makes a difference.

    Thanks, Schaeffdog
