    Hey XFlat and DV8Cowboy . . .

Looks like they're getting a handle on Tea Timer's piggy habits. I tried installing mod.5 over Mod.4. Didn't look much different on cpu usage and the file kept growing as per last version. Uninstalled previous spybot and went in clean. Bang. Tea Timer (so far. I'm keeping an eye on it) stabilized at 4,484 ram usage without growing (yet :) ) and 0.0 cpu. activity. Gonna keep checking it with CachmanXP on and off today until I'm sure. But looks like they've handled the hog.

I don't think I've received one "update" since I've installed spybot 1.3 RC 3... didn't know there was a "4". Thanks for letting us know there was a 5. Shouldn't any of this come up when we "check for updates" in the program? Do I have to change a setting somewhere? I usually just run the default mode instead of the advanced mode, but I just checked for "updates" in the advanced mode too and nothing showed up.

Hi pegg :) Spybot is slow to update(nothing like adaware) and we usually have to "go get it." Big Thanks to good folks like Magnus for keeping us informed.

TeaPot running at 2,576 ram after three or four hours, 0.0 cpu. By Jove I think they's got it right :D Good work guys!

Correct as usual Robo. MG stays ahead of the curve :)

    Is teatimer.exe responsible for this??

My whole system has slowed to a CRAWL. I think the last time I "deleted" teatimer. So it's OK to delete teatimer.exe?

Is this related to downloading the program this morning: my computer has hardly responded to commands and twice it's just frozen up...absolutely nothing would respond except that it would beep, blip or chime when I tried to open power options, system, etc. Couldn't do anything except hold the power button til it shut off.

Had to do this twice the last two times I've been on. 2 for 2. If anyone thinks it's only related to teatimer great. I've only looked at it a few times and it's hit over 30,000K in mem usage. Will that do all this?

Teatimer for me just keeps growing in ram useage, still is not fixed. Deleting that then. And this thing just will not update. I never see it update for the last 3 release candidates. lol

Wow guys. This is pretty interesting. So far this AM, TeaTimer sitting solid at 4,524 K., cpu 0.0. Can't think of anything I would have done different than any of you. I set a restore point, cleaned out all trace of SpyBot 4 (I ran SpyBot uninstall, RegSupreme in deep search mode, Crap Cleaner, deleted the previous SB4 folder from Windows Explorer -- which had a data file left over from mod.4 in it -- and than installed Bot5). I'll keep staring at TeaTimer today and if I get the spike you're talking about, then I'll add my gripes to the general uproar ;)
    Bill
Edit: oh yeah, after "install" be sure to "immunize." There were about 18 new immunizations with Mod.5.

Ignore all this. Will try again later. Baz

Hullo to all, I have now run all 4 versions of Spybot S & D that I have (had), on my laptop <SPAN style="mso-fareast-font-family: 'MS Mincho'"><FONT face="Courier New">as follows: -

    oops?

OOPS -- I did do this but first I did a search for teatimer.exe and deleted that (not the whole spybot program of course) just what was the exe. Then I realized I could go into the advanced mode (I rarely let my fingers venture there) and I did uncheck teatimer (not that it matters now).

Did I mess up anything by deleting teatimer.exe? My computer is still slower than normal but I've only been on it a couple of times since and it hasn't CRAWLED and STOPPED again yet.

Spybot, posting again, using Notepad (thx Cowboy)

Hullo to all, I have now run 4 versions of Spybot S & D on my laptop
    as follows: -
    ......................................SYS.......USER.....GDI
    Spybot 1.1........................15..........14..........25
    Spybot 1.2........................20............6..........27
    Spybot 1.3 beta rc3...........34...........14.........46
    Spybot 1.3 beta rc5...........23...........14.........32

All 4 were run independently from each other with minimum stuff running.
Spybot rc5 obviously is better run on it's own.
When run with Pest Patrol and AdAware it used 33/25/33
It would appear that 1.3 rc5 is a hell of an improvement over rc3.
    Did not know of rc4.

    May 4th, 2004

With minimum loaded, resources are at..........78/78/91 with 75%Ram free, 216mb
    (1) Pest Patrol goes down to..........................66/66/73 with 61% Ram free, 175mb
    (2) AdAware goes down to.............................55/60/55 with 50% Ram free, 144mb
    (3) Spybot 1.3 rc5 crashed more than once (run time error)
    (4) Spybot 1.3 rc5 (finally going) down to ........22/35/22 with 60% Ram free, 173mb

Anomaly in free Ram is because Analog X maxmem ran automatically and freed up memory.

    May 5th, 2004.

FWIW, I have rc5 running right now, with teatimer padlock on, ZA, AVG, AOL UK v7.0, rsrcmtr.exe, Gadwin printscreen, Analog X MaxMem, Notepad and some other stuff running and still have..........37/37/63 left.

Specs are W98SE, P2/400 laptop, 288mb Ram (maxed out), IE6, AOL UK V7.0, V90 dialup modem, 30gig hard drive, plenty of room.
BTW, where do you find out the size of teatimer, and if it's growing?
I guess I just do a "find" every so often, or is there another better way. Baz

Thx xflat. Suggest post might be better under "resources leak" rather than memory leak.

Can you tell me where I can check on teatimer size

For those of you who are interested in trying it, PepiMK has an updated teatimer.exe available here:

    http://forums.net-integration.net/index.php?showtopic=14457

The memory issues have supposedly been addressed, although I have not tried it myself as I have teatimer disabled on my machine.

Sorry for the link to another forum, but it is the "Official Spybot S&D Support Forum" ;)

I`ll try the supposedly fixed exe for a bit and see how it goes. Thx for the link.

addendum: ok, there is still a slight memory leakagey, but no where near as bad as before. Thx again. I hope they fix it so the Teatimer thingy uses a set amount of ram only.... eventually.

Well, it's been four or five days now and SBS&D.RC5 (with TeaTimer active) has been behaving. File has not grown. No "slow to a crawl" or 100 percent usage stats. In Task Manager and CachManXP ram useage stays in the range of 1,970K to 5,350k, random checks show no steady cpu drain, processor usage 0.0. Running Avast, Spyware Blaster, Zonealarm, Spam Butcher, CachemanXP and Slimbrowser with no (apparent) conflicts. At least for me the thing works okay

That's weird. I posted a reply to your post Chas, but it didn't post. Go figger  Anyhow, trying again; no I didn't d/l the new TeaTimer. I'm still working with SB RC5 the way I clean installed it (as described in oner of my earlier posts on [page one of this thread). I'll keep an eye out for trouble and keep yaw'll informed if any occurrs. :)

Thx Cowboy. I am stuck with W98 at present (no dough) but will probably go back to minimum AOL because of email and go back to dodo for downloads. Both together should approximate the cost of full AOL. I will be moving back to Cairns soon so should be able to get broadband there at the same cost as maximum AOL (AUD$30 per month).

I am using teatimer.exe (with the padlock at startup with no probs). Made sure I uninstalled old versions first, though)

Just out of curiosity have you had any trouble logging into MG over the past 2 days. OK now, but I got "504 Gateway timeouts" in the last few days. Baz

No, Baz. Though MG has been a little slow opening last couple of days. I've not had any "504" messages durimg that time. Bill

Thx Bill, I was trying to contact Cowboy as he is another OZ member on MG every day to see if he had probs logging in
    .
I was unable to login but could view posts ! (strange?) Tim of MG answered my email and said it wasn't a prob at MG's end. Later yesterday I logged in without probs and today it is fine. All is back to normal logging in. Just one of those things we put up with on the Net I guess. Bazza
