When Spybot S&D is installed, by Default, it is installed in "Easy Mode" with the Desktop Icon that it sets for "Easy Mode". Spybot, however, has an "Advanced Mode" that has a number of great features and tools.

"Advanced mode" can be found by going to Programs>>Spybot>>click on "Advanced Mode".

Personally, the feature I like most can be found by clicking on "Tools" while in "Advance Mode". Within "Tools" the following options are avaiable:

    1) A file shredder that allows you to shred unwanted files by dragging and dropping unwanted files into the shredder and "chopping" it.

2)Click on Active X for a display of all installed Active X programs.

    3)Click on BHO's for all installed BHO's

4)Click on Hosts file for a listing of those files.

5)Click on Process list for running processes

6)Click on System Start up to view and modify Startup Programs

7)Click on Winstock LSP's for information about LSP's

There are also selections under the "Settings" and "Excludes" that can be configured to alter the way Spybot runs.

Caution, this is an advanced mode and changes should be made only if you are absolutely certain you know exactly what the effect of making those changes will be.

But there is an EXCELLENT tutorial on the use of Spybot HERE:

    http://tomcoyote.org/~mosaic1/spybot/

and after reading the tutorial, even fairly novice-level users should be able to use Spybot's Advanced Mode with confidence.

    It ain't rocket science, guys.

Do you think Spybot is better than Spywareblaster?

Spywareblaster and Spybot do different things. Spywareblaster blocks picking up unwanted stuff while on the internet. Spybot cleans unwanted stuff you've already got in your computer that you've picked up while on the internet.

They can both be used for better protection. Spybot has a function it that will block in the same way Spywareblaster does but Spywareblaster blocks more things and you have better control over what is blocked

    From the Spybot S&D help:
As Marjorie said, they do different things. I use them both.

    Yep. Good strategy.

Kinda like the old warrior's shield and sword: he never went into battle without both.

    One blocks; the other kills.

Just to follow up Wisewiz's thoughts on layering protection, a pretty good "wall" of protection and cleaning can be set up by installing and using all the following software.

**Both Ad-aware and Spybot can be used. They have different data bases> as a result sometimes one will identify spyware the other does'nt. It's my understanding you need to reboot after you've cleaned with one before you use the other.

Although not a spyware directed software System Security Suite is a nice cleaner with lots of choices of what to clean.

Have XP Pro and have all above installed. Use them about once per week. Have not had any problems with conflicts.
