Spybot S&D question

Hi, need some advice. My MIL downloaded SpyBot S & D from this site and she started out with 13 thousand+ files, it takes her computer an hour or longer for this program to run it's course, now she's up to 20 thousand + files Spybot S&D is scanning (don't understand why the files are growing??) I suggested that she uninstall this program and re download it, she did but it still takes her computer over an hour for this program to run and when it's done it shows *DSO Exploit 5 entries*, that's all that keeps coming up and what does that mean?? she hits the *Fix any problems found* and it says Zero problems fixed. her computer is less than a year old and she has Microsoft XP

Does anyone have an Idea on what's going on here??? My SpyBot S&D runs fine less than 5 minutes to run it's scan....

I had the same problem with Spy Bot.
I have been told many times that this is a bug in Spy Bot and just to add it to the ignore list. I dont think this is anything to worry about.
Im pretty sure if you searched the forums for 5 DSO EXPLOITS you'd get alot of hits on information and the steps to ignoring it.
O ya, my sisters computer has the same problem, takes it forever to scan. But thats just because she has a shitty computer, runs XP as well. Also when you search the web and such your Temporary Files increase, that may be the cause.

 

I don't know about this one. Do you ever clear your temporary files, browser cache, etc.? You don't want all that old stuff sitting in your system. One great and very easy "cleaner" to use for this type of removal is CCleaner. You can download it for free here on Major Geeks

I don't think it's the program...I think it's stuff on the computer. Like Kemper said, DSO Exploit is a "known bug" in Spybot and you can go into advanced mode and change the settings to Ignore DSO Exploit, or simply let it run and find them, but just don't check the box and "fix" anything.

Try cleaning up the computer first and then see what happens.

 

Don't feel left out, I am in the same boat, however, it does not take as long for Sbybot to do it's job nor do my files continue to grow but I do notice the DSO Exploit 5 entries every single time......BUT, along with others as well!. I had switched from Adware 6 pro to spybot because a good friend had recomended it from Canada. Now that I have read this forum I'm going to see if I can find the answer to our problem.

 

(I copied and pasted this explanation from another post about DSO exploit since this question has been asked a lot).
At this point in time, you can safely IGNORE the findings of DSO Exploit in SpyBot S&D...or you can tell SpyBot to ignore them (open SpyBot, at the top where it says FILE MODE LANGUAGE HELP -- click on MODE and chose Advanced. Then go to "settings" tab on left, choose "ignore Products" and scroll down to the DSO Exploit box and check it. Then SpyBot will ignore it in a scan.

While you're at it -- make sure no other boxes are checked.

Obviously, the more files and folders on your computer the longer a scan will take. I've never had Spybot S&D take more than several minutes but scan time can be very relative.
