Spybotsd questions

WHEN I click on the immunize icon, a dialog box comes up and says:

Geeks do it with hard drive! Have you tweaked a geek today?

no just kidding

the dialog box says:

1476 bad products already blocked. 146 additional protections possible. Please immunize.

SO I click the immunize tab and nothing happens.
Then I click the immunize icon again and get the same message.

Also WHAT IS TEA TIMER? (Yes I read the tutorial, searched the tutorial and can't get any info on it) AND do I need tea timer?? I, for some reason, didn't include it when I installed spybot.

 

i get same message but 138 additional protections possible.

 

STEP: 1

put this in start-->run

for xp:
notepad C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

for 2k
notepad C:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

STEP: 2
do FILE-->SAVE AS the save it someplace as hosts.bak

STEP: 3
Follow step 1 again and then:

delete the contents of the file and save it.

Then run spybot again and run the immunize function.

 

i get an error message.....notepad
Cannot open the C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts.txt file.
Make sure a disk is in the drive you specified.

 

that's because you didn't follow directions..

repeat step1 and do it EXACTLY as displayed..

 

is this not right?

That should have worked

Try this: Start > Run > c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

and then choose notepad from the dialog box that comes up.

 

Try this:

Start, run,


notepad %systemroot%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

 

error message again

 

do a search on your system for "hosts" ..

 

wayhay...... next move?

 

know what.. SKIP all of that above.. I swear , I must be losing my frakking mind..

When you get that IMMUNIZE message..look at the bottom of the Spybot window.

it says "CHECK AGAIN" "IMMUNIZE" "UNDO"..

click IMMUNIZE..

that bit worked, but wot about the stuff i did before? does it matter, will it cause probs?

 

if you cleared the hosts file, then just click UNDO, CHECK AGAIN and then follow the rest of the prompts.

you put HOSTS.TXT

I didn't say it was a .TXT file . There is no extension to the hosts file ...

 

erm....look at screen shot, i typed exactly as you typed, it added the .txt bit in the error message

The answer has already been posted in this thread. Click UNDO , then RECHECK and then IMMUNIZE.

 

SORRY ABOUT THAT kodo, thought that thread was dead because of all the views. I tried that, it didn't work.

 

Hey Nicky, did you upgrade from Win2k, making your Windows directory c:\winnt?

That would 'splain why it didn't work until you used Adryn's instruction.

 

nah, ive got dual boot winxp pro and win98, only eva log on to winxp pro tho n anyway he said he was losin it lol,
