Hey can any one tell me if spybotsd13.exe will work with windows 95? I have a pent 2 , 233 mhz (I know it's a dinosaur), and 64 ram. I just had a nasty problem with spyware that prevented me from opening MY COMPUTER, EXPLORER, CONTROL PANEL, AND INTERNET EXPLORER. Not to mention that it took talking to seven Gateway techs before one could fix this problem. the previous six techs wanted me to reformat my hard drive. Also, next to the download titles on this site, when it says win all under operating systems , does this mean windows 95 included? thanks.

In another recent thread Star gave this link for a manual removal of nCase:

There's a manual removal on this page...hope it helps.

    http://www.doxdesk.com/parasite/nCase.html

I'm not sure that that will clean all the problems up though. It may be necessary to run some more tools like Ad-aware and SpyBot S&D too.

Thanks star, alanc and 4xx and chaslang. I'LL check out those links. I gotta say this is a great site I wish I had found out about this site sooner.

Mike1616 in my case I kept getting an error message when I tried to open iexplore, my computer, control panel or explorer. the error was the good old" this program preformed an illegal operation and will be shut down". Than when i clicked on details it said explorer ( or iexplore, my computer, control panel ) caused an invalid page fault in VX2.DLL. So the tech had me go into dos and rename the vx2.dll file so th os couldn't access it anymore. I beleive the command was
    c:\windows:ren_vx2.dll_vx2.old.*
(the _ are spaces not underscores)
hope this gets you up and running again.

Thanks again for the help everyone!

hello chas, the gateway tech told me that the vx2 file was spy/adware, I found the program om my progarm list in control panel and removed it. I just tried the link that alanc gave me for the winsock2 update (which I need do install spybotsd) but I get the 404 error page not found. is there a way I can check to see if I already have the winsock 2 update on my system?

SpyBot is an adware removal tool. And so is Ad-aware. You should download and run both of them. Here are the links:

    http://www.majorgeeks.com/download506.html

Yes, HiJaak This will run on Win95. Get it here: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html

Hello chas, I installed and ran spybot last night . It found 80 problems, fixed em all.Today my computer worked normally an actually seemed faster. Tonight I DOWNLOADED adware and hijack. I logged off closed out of everythin and attempted to install adware. Clicked on the adware icon and a window came up "initializing wise installation wizard" I don't have that on my computer. Sooo I CLOSED out of that and tried to log on but couldn't. When I clicked on details in the dial up window it said modem not detected. I clicked on the usrx modem identification wizard I have to make sure the modem was there and it was . I tried to log on again and did. I opened Iexplorer and instead of going to my home page it started taking me to a microsoft update page. SO I checked internet options to see if it was still set to my home page and it was, tested it by clicking on the ie home button and it took me to my home page. Then when I first attempted to log on here ie started taking me to microsft update page again. whats going on here?????????? also hijack is a zip file , how big is it when you unzip it??

Okay a a little confused by your message. Let's sort thru this. I've interlace comments and questions.

You mean you downloaded Ad-aware and HiJaak This.

"I logged off closed out of everythin and attempted to install adware. "

What do you mean logged off! Do you mean you disconnected from the internet?
And then you tried to install Ad-aware?

"Clicked on the adware icon and a window came up "initializing wise installation wizard" I don't have that on my computer. Sooo I CLOSED out of that"

No don't do that. That's part of their installation program. A few seconds later Welcome window for the installer would have appeared.

"and tried to log on but couldn't. When I clicked on details in the dial up window it said modem not detected. I clicked on the usrx modem identification wizard I have to make sure the modem was there and it was . I tried to log on again and did. I opened Iexplorer and instead of going to my home page it started taking me to a microsoft update page."

Probably because there is an update required. This does happen periodically. It does not mean you have been hijaaked.

"SO I checked internet options to see if it was still set to my home page and it was, tested it by clicking on the ie home button and it took me to my home page. Then when I first attempted to log on here ie started taking me to microsft update page again. whats going on here?????????? also hijack is a zip file , how big is it when you unzip it??"

Let it go there and see what they are looking for you to do.

    okay

yes i disconnected from the internet and closed all programs to do the adware install because whenever I install a program it says to exit out of all running programs

the wise installation window closed itself maybe I didn't wait long enough

ok sorry the microsoft update thing has never happened in the 6 years I have been using the computer

so should I keep an internet connection while I install adware?

Yes keep the connection and then update Ad-aware (not adware) after it installs to get the current reference lists.

    Hello chas , what's geekin, I can't get Ad-aware to install.

The wise installation wizard initialization window comes up and than closes itself.

should I download it again , I originally downloaded it from the link you posted.

Something must have been messed up when you shut things down that time.

Check add-remove programs to see if anything is in there for Ad-aware. If so try to remove it. Also, check to see if you have a c:\program files\Lavasoft directory. If so, delete it.

Also, try give this a run to clean up all the temp stuff: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4191.html

Then download Ad-aware again from http://www.majorgeeks.com/download506.html
    and retry the install.

I wonder if the registry might require some cleaning???
