Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

I was running Net Nanny 6.0 on my computer, so the kids can use the internet safely. In trying to reduce the many layers of protection that were slowing me down, I removed a couple of heavy programs I had and installed PCTools Firewall, ThreatFire and Spyware Dr. I immediately started receiving a number of "Level of Threat - High" messages and readings of a number of "infections". I suspected a conflict and communicated with the Content Watch folks who put out Net Nanny. Wouldn't you know, it's incompatible with Spyware Dr. and family (don't you wish they told you this during the installation process!) I have uninstalled all of the PCTools stuff, but have also lost internet access because the computer can't find Net Nanny, so I can't log on. When I attempted to uninstall Net Nanny, I got the following message:
    Runtime error (at - 1:0):
    cannot import dll:c:\contentwatch\intern~\modules\capi.dll

Have attempted to uninstall in Safe Mode with the same outcome.

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Thanks again.

I found these instructions to remove Net Nanny from
Maybe if you delete the ContentWatch folders, the error will go away.

Thank you, pdlr, for your very helpful response. Would the same process be necessary to remove any other software from one's computer? Why is it that running "Uninstall" does not remove the software entirely?

    Thanks again.

    I wish you well.

The nontechnical answer is that some software is designed to be hard to remove (some malware, of course, but also some legitimate software--Norton products are notorious for this). Often googling the name of the stubborn program plus a phrase "removal instructions" or "how to uninstall" will get you detailed instructions. Some programs have uninstallers (e.g. there's a Java removal tool IIRC).

Revo Uninstaller (downloadable here) is pretty good at uprooting stuff.

    FJM,

Thank you, especially for the "nontechnical" emphasis. I'll check Revo.

    Thanks again.

    Regards.
