A Win98SE PII/333 workstation on a small companies production network complete with drive mappings and netwk shared folders. This workstation had BargainBuddy/Bullseye Network and all of its associated spyware/malware programs installed. I ran SpyBot S&D, AdAware & NoAdware. These removed almost all of the software & entries associated with BargainBuddies/Bullseye Network. There were files in the recycle bin…DC83, INFO2(hidden file), DC101, DC94-99, DC100.HTT and DC93.HTT. When these files were selected and deleted, they reappeared in the recycle bin and the numbers had been incremented. I ran regedit searching for entries related to BB/BN to no avail. I did searches for sys and ini files to no avail. I finally ran CCleaner 1.14 and these files in the recycle were finally deleted. I have run multiple scans of the workstation and it comes up clean…so I am pretty sure I have gotten the malware. My next concern is the network…does this malware attach/install/save files to network folders or shares? If so, what does the IT staff who maintain the server for this company need to do to the server…run Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware and CClean 1.14…just to be safe?
    Thanks

Yes, malware can cause problems on share drives. Whether BargainBuddy or Bullseye Network specifically does, I do not know. It would not hurt to scan all systems on the network. But shouldn't your IT people already know this. Don't you have any protection tools in place already? Like firewalls, virus protection, spyware blocking, etc.

Thanks for the input...I left a CD with all of the tools I used to clean the workstation at my wife's office. I suggested that she have the one guy who does programming and some minimal server maintenance take a look at the server using the tools I left. I would agree with that statement about IT Staff but this company is small and has no real IT staff. I did this repair work on the pc my wife uses at work as a favor to her. The company is on hard times and are reluctant/reticent to spend money on IT Support. They are just trying to keep their head above water. With regards to the "protection" tools...they are generic and nobody does maintenance or upgrades on them. I almost took the contract on but I currently have more work then I can deal with where I work. I spent all weekend with this piece of hardware and do not want to be doing this during my off hours...again thanks for the input. Cliph
