Spyware Stopper

I read the review of this and was intrigued to try it. SpyBlocker is from the same company, and is pretty cool. I was amazed at the stuff it found and blocked. Sadly tho, I cannot get Spyware Stopper to even work at all.
It installs, but trying to start the exe right after install, or after a reboot... the tips message window comes up, is blank, and it freezes, with the cpu useage at 99/100%.

I tried all their fixes, and the latest version. But nothing works. Anyone here got any ideas? I did a hijackthis, all is fine.

I am running SpyBlocker, SpywareBlaster, and SpyBot S&D as well. My FW is not blocking anything. Did the install with nothing running in the background. Thx

Sorry i dont know much about this program, are you saying it installs ok just wont run
Maybe killing all your other spyware programs first, and then starting the app to see if theres any conflicts, seeing as you sure have a lot of them

 

I installed it and it does install fine. And I tried to run it with absolutely no other progs running at the same time. Nada. It just freezes at the tips screen, and cpu is at 100% usage. I got AVG anti virus , this rig is clean. And I do not have a clue as to why this app just won`t run for me. ;0(

I also had something like that happen when I first tried Spybot. Just try to un-install and re-install. Hopefully that will work.

I suppose you've tried looking at msconfig and services.misc to try to see just what is the power hog.

 

Well all, I actually got this thing to install, and I have no clue what I did. I did empty my windows temp folder, and everything in the documents temp and temp internet files folders. Ya think this was the culprit? At any rate, I really like what Spyware Stopper is doing. And SpyBlocker too. It is amazing the stuff that can get whacked onto your computer, and you don`t even have a clue it is happening. Thx for your replies.

 

Sorry to butt in...BUT

I'm not quite sure what you mean by power hog? (the reason I ask is because I am having enormous problems on my W2K which seems to be running dead slow, and was wondering whether your reply re looking at services.misc and msconfig (which I don't think works in W2K?) may have some relevance to my (different) problem...

 

Hey Wod, what you should probably do is post a new thread titled something like "W2K running dead slow HELP." That should attract you some geeks who know all there is to know about W2K.
