Spywareblaster alternatives

Good day

I have been using Spywareblaster for over a year now and I like it a lot. Recently, though, I've had issues. It won't update. When I try to update, it tells me I have a problem with the firewall, or the server is down, etc. I've been using v3.4. I've uninstalled/reinstalled, tried different folders.....nothing. I can't even use my browser to get to the lavacoolsoft.com site.

My other security software is Ad aware se, Spybot, avg, and zone alarm.

If this thing just won't update, I'd like to get something else along the same lines. Any recommendations...?

I just updated mine after I read your post. Turn off your firewall while you're trying to update.

 

I tried that a number of times....including about 5 minutes ago. I'm fairly sure za ain't the problem. On another site, I read something about ad aware changing something in the host file.....I have no idea. I'll keep on trying so we'll see. I like the real time type protection SWB gives me so I'd like to keep it if I can. Failing that, I'll look for something else. Thanks, though.

Turning off ZoneAlarm doesn't always work as the "true vector" module is still running.

Start ZoneAlarm, go into Program Control and if SpywareBlaster is listed then right-click and remove it.

Then start SpywareBlaster and update it.

ZoneAlarm should ask you if you want to allow access for SpywareBlaster, which is yes off-course.


BTW, SpywareGuard is great to use in conjunction.

 

I've used Spywareblaster and Zone Alarm for months and have never needed to turn off the firewall to update. Recently, though, when I've tried to update Spywareblaster it just sits there apparently doing nothing until I get the "This program is not responding" message and I close it down. The odd part is, on looking at the number of items in the database I see the program actually did update.

 

Here's what I get;

"Cannot establish connection to download.
Please check your internet connection and try again."

That's on a wee screen....I close that and SWB says;

"Error connecting to update server.

There was an error getting the update information file from the server. The server may be temporarily unavailable or there may be a conflict with the firewall software installed on your pc. The update information may also have gotten corrupted during download.

Please try again soon."

I tried removing it from ZA....it asked to allow and I did....still nothing. I can't seem to find the lavacoolsoftware.com site either.

Coitanly a vexing problem....not critical but annoying.

Sorry....typo. Yah....javacoolsoftware.com just won't load on my machine, and other machines here too.....dunno....stranger things have happened, I guess.

 

Have you tried completely uninstalling then reinstalling it?

Make sure there aren't any old folders or files left before installing the new one.
