Is SpywareBlaster sill being maintained and developed ? It seems that it hasn't been updated since May 2016.

Version 5.5 is the latest build but the definitions are updated every month. Seems fine to me.

It has only protected Internet Explorer for several years. This is the latest
    Database Update - April 28, 2017
    18 Internet Explorer
    0 Restricted Sites
    0 Firefox

    17654 items in database

Are you running the latest version?

I was actually shocked when a MSMVP for security pointed out that there have been no additions for other browsers for a long time. I'm looking for the thread to see how long ago any items were offered to protect other browsers.

    Found it
So nothing for other browsers since August 14, 2014.

Thank you plodr! For years I've been taking SB's effectiveness for granted but as I never use IE it's pointless for me other than blocking tracking cookies in FFx, and I suspect I'm not alone ;)

You aren't alone! The only time I fire up IE is to help posters solve an issue in IE.

It's free, it doesn't use any system resources and it does install killbits. It's good for those reasons.

Wow thanks guys. plodr, all this time looking at IE, Firefox and Chrome listed on SpywareBlaster, I never dug deep enough to realize that IE was it's main focus. Thanks for all the info.

I still run and update Spyware Blaster every month or so, just to get the added protections. I may not use IE anymore, or Edge for that matter, but all the previous additions can still attack if you, like me, visit different corners of the web.

All it does in Firefox is block tracking cookies on the selected sites, nothing else. It doesn't prevent 'attacks'.

According to their forums, they have new features and additions that they're working on. They are also wanting to support Edge, but have to wait for Microsoft to open developer support for the browser.

plodr's revelation came as a complete surprise to me but I haven't removed it, just hope what you say proves right.

If a user already has SB installed but rarely if ever uses IE, there is no need to remove it. It doesn't use any system resources so it's not a problem. Since there is always a possibility of using IE to resolve a web site issue, it's also a layer of protection worth keeping.

I'm with Max and while its usage maybe not really needed these days with modern browsers and even incuding Edge its still a minimal resource but a welcome addition just incase, I tend to install it on any PC I have personally or work on for others.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I haven't removed it. All those blocked sites from years past are still working. I just don't see it as critical to keep checking for updates any more. When someone posts it has been updated - usually once a month, then I update it and enable protection.

I still use SpywareBlaster and update it when there are new updates. Just seems like a good idea to me to have every little bit of protection I can. I also use Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit, Antilogger Free. and CryproPrevent. All three are the free versions downloaded from Major Geeks.:)
