I have LibreOffice and it works great.

But I do not know how to make the Square Root with my Math Numbers in it.

I go to Insert then Objects then Formula.
And I go through all the Menus in the Dropdown List but I see no Square Root Symbole.

    I hope somebody can help?

PS......I did go on Google and found a Page on the WebSite they show the Square Root Symbole but do not tell how or where it is.

    Thanks for the time.

    Use Windows' Character Map.

    Instructions:
    1. Be sure Num Lock is on
    2. Hold down the alt key (either one)
    3. Type on the keypad not the row at the top of the keys, 2 5 1

Use Math not writer. In the lower window type
    Code:
    SQRT
whatever you type after it will be inside the square root sign

I typed SQRT 245.786 and got this

    OK I did it.
I hold the ALT Key and Type 251 and it put the Square Symbol.

But as I Type my Numbers they just go to the Right of it.

It is not Drawling the Line from the Top of the Symbol over the Numbers I type on the Right side.

    Why?

If you want it to also calculate the square root, as in plodr's post #6, you have to do it while in the Math function of your Libre Office. When you use the character map it is just a character occupying one space, there is no math function attached to it.
