SSD Capacity/Performance

I have exactly 61GB free on my SSD and I need to install a game (Titanfall) that will consume 48GB installed. That leaves only 13GB free on my SSD. It's also just around 90% capacity.

Will I see a performance decrease filling up my drive that much? My Virtual Memory is already set to 2GB max btw.

    Thanks for any replies.

Nope. But, yes, you will load the game faster, but that is about it.

    Thanks for the reply.

So 13GB is enough for the SSD to perform trim and garbage collection? I've heard if the SSD gets too full, it can't perform those functions properly and performance degrades.

    That's my main concern.

    Hi

Leaving a 10% of SSD free for TRIM, Wear Levelling etc was a rule of thumb with 1st and 2nd generation SSDs but the newer ones not so much but I would not fill one and I tend to leave 10% in a RAW partition for this purpose.

So you should be fine, but with a game of that size, I'd be looking at a larger SSD to install Windows + apps and games, you may run out sooner than you think and updates to that game will at some point add a few GBs to the games original 48GB install

Thanks David. That makes me feel better.

I've got a bigger SSD on the way, but Titanfall comes out Tuesday and I didn't want to delete BF4 just to play it :)
