Ssd Issues

Every Saturday I do backups on my main computer, using a 500 gig SSD drive. I started getting errors and finally gave up using this old smaller drive on my computer and finally used a thumb drive to get the backups, man was that slow! I finally got it done but now I have ordered a another two terabyte drive to replace the drive in my computer if need be. If nothing else I will use it as a backup drive for a little while once I have established it is not my main drive in my computer that is acting up. What software does a full scan on a SSD drive to see if there is bad or about to fail, my understanding of SSD drives is that they usually die all at once and don't fail like older drives where they start dropping data. Am I mistaken?

I downloaded it, what specifically does it do? Does it have the equivalent of a scandisk?

 

Run it, and it tells you the smart values that are stored on the hard drive. It will also give you a condition of the hard drive, as in "good", "failing" in case you dont fully understand the numbers.

 

That has been my experience, an SSD just disappears. Mechanical drives *usually* give you some warning, a whine, a click, some read / write errors..

 

After I bought a 2TB SSD the issue just went away. Go figure.
