I purchased a SSD drive last week (G.SKILL Phoenix Pro Series FM-25S2S-120GBP2) and did a quick clone / re-image job on my computer to get it up and running within minutes with the same config, installs etc... as I had before. Btw, ahci was enabled in the bios and intel matrix drivers were loaded prior to cloning. I decided that a fresh install is probably in order since I didn't like the way my partitions were setup. Since the drive has data on would a complete wipe of the disk be recommended to regain the free space/performance? G. SKILL forum recommends downloading gparted and doing a complete wipe. Do you guys concur with this?

If you're using Windows 7, it will install differently to an SSD due to the differing technology behind it.

A lower Win version will require manual tweaking to work best with an SSD.

So, yes, a clean install is preferable.

The less wipes of an ssd, the longer it will last. Personally, I wouldn't wipe an ssd with something like Darik's Boot and Nuke.

Run services.msc to disable the following services:
    1. Disk Defragmenter
    2. Superfetch
    3. Windows Search
