SSH tunneling woes

I've been trying to set up a SSH server on my primary computer so I can tunnel into it from *whereever* thanks to the portable verison of puTTY and run a secure VNC session or whatever else I could do with it. I've never attempted this before so I've probably screwed up somewhere along the line.

Basically I've installed FreeSSHD (Cygwin and OpenSSH didn't seem to work out with me), set up a user account, password, etc. Then I turned the SSH server on and tried to tunnel in from my mothers desktop. I got a " Network error:connection refused" message (nothing else), I tried it on my machine and got the same thing.

I should probably also mention that I've got a dynamic IP (courtesy of satellite internet) and I thought I could get around this by getting a hostname from Dyndns. So instead of a normal IP address in puTTY I've been using my hostname thing (port 22). I've used it in the Tunnels menu too, as well as http://127.0.0.1 (as used by G4's Call for Help page on the matter). As for port forwarding, I did a port scan thing that said 22 was open...But I'm going to take a look in the router to make sure every things set up right if I can.

So yeah, if you want anymore information please ask. I'd appreciate any help i can get. :)

Bah. I couldn't find a edit post button. Anyway, I've tried to forward a port for SSH, but I'm pretty sure I ended up not accomplishing anything. :p If I remember correctly my ISP wasn't very keen on people setting up static IP's anyway unless you paid for them to set you up. So yeah, any help/advice is welcome.

Amazingly I've managed to fix my issues! ...And run into another one. :p I had the wrong IP for my hostname, that was easy enough to fix; anyway I can connect to my computer, punch in my username, but I can't type anything into the password prompt. Like so. I can hit enter and get 'access denied' though. :p
