STALKER not responding

hey i am having some problems with stalker. i have installed the game and when i went to play it nothing happened. i double clicked on the icon and it did not respond. i tried every way possible of launching the game but nothing worked.

I read on some forums that it might work if i reinstalled it and if i updated my drivers. i done both of them and still nothing. so i uninstalled and installed again and still nothing. i installed the patch and yet again nothing happened.

i dont know if i have the wrong graphics card drivers or wat. i downloaded them from the nvidia website. this is the one i downloaded
93.71_forceware_winxp2k_english_whql.exe

i think that is the right one but not to sure. any help would be greatfull.

windows Xp sp2
amd athlon 64 x2 dual core 3800+ processor
2gb of ram
nvidia geforce 7600GT(256mb) video card
