Standard Windows Runtime needed

I'm transfering some of the programs on my main computer to an older computer that I own, mostly all my music and video programs. My main computer has Windows XP home version, my old comuter has Windows 98. I deleted anything that I thought I didn't need on the Windows 98 computer, just to get it down to bear bones stuff. I obviously deleted something of importance because when I try to install my Audio Edit Deluxe program, a program I use to edit music, I get the following message. "A Standard Windows runtime needed to install and use this software is not present in the version needed on your system. Would you like to download and install runtime now?"

Now, if my Windows 98 computer was hooked up to the internet, I could do that, but it's not. I've had a very rough time with Spyware and that's why I'm getting certain things off my main computer and putting them on my old computer, with no intention of hooking it up to the internet.

I did a search on the interent through Google and when I put in "Windows Runtime" I get stuff for "Java." Since I know little about computer operations, I have no idea what to download. I even tried searching on my computer for a "runtime" program, but nothing came up.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, I don't have a solution for you but only some things to consider.
You didn't necessarily delete something of importance. Some SE systems didn't have all the Windows Runtime Library files to begin with and one had to muck around to find them and install them. I'm referring mainly to vbrun"X"00.dll where "X" could be a 1, 2 or 3. There are other Runtime files, too.
The error message implies that the needed library file is there, but it's the wrong version. I wouldn't necessarily trust this. It may be a standard error message even if the installer finds no file at all. Of course, the message may be perfectly correct, too. My quick look found that the program should run fine on SE, so that shouldn't be the problem.
Without knowing which file is needed, it's hit and miss even if you could find the library files somewhere (the VBRun ones I mentioned are fairly readily available on the net, but that may not be the ones you need). You might try contacting the makers of the program and find out what file(s) the installer is looking for...perhaps they have a forum or message board. Knowing the file name(s) you might be able to track them down and install them if you know where they should go...usually the install is just copying the files to the proper Windows folder.
Alternatively, you might consider a quick hookup to the internet to get the file needed for the installer, risky though it is. This might be trial and error, too, as you might have to do this repeatedly if the installer keeps looking for more files that it needs. Won't know until you try, though.
Reinstalling SE might take care of it if you truly did delete something, but it may not either, considering my statement that not all runtime library files were installed on some SE systems.
Another, but messy, way to possibly solve the problem may be copying the program folder(s) from the XP computer to a CD then to the SE computer, depending on how many hooks the program has into the system. This won't work if there are registry entries associated with the program installation. But if it's a simple program, without many files and all in the same folder, it might work...Nothing lost but a little time if it doesn't...sometimes programs work just fine without the libraries and it's only the installers that need them. There are also programs out there that copy an installed program from one computer to another, supposedly taking care of registry entries, etc., too, but I can't recommend any particular one. They are marketed to move/copy programs from one computer to another.
One other option is to upgrade the SE computer to XP, but that's time and money.
Perhaps someone else can help you better than I could. Good luck!

Thank you so much. You sound very knowledgeable. I will print your reply and go through the steps, starting with contacting the company that makes the program.

    thank you again.
