Start Button Missing XP

    Hi,

    After reinstalling XP SP2 and doing numerous security upgrades including SP3 and IE8 my desktop icons and start button started to disappear intermittently during the numerous restarts. When they were all finished my computer started OK and all was well, however now every time it starts the the icons and Start button are missing.

    I can see the taskbar Ok just no Start button or menu. I can ctrl/alt/del, new task then explorer.exe to access my programmes and all are working fine. I have run ccleaner and cleared the temporary files and the registry but it has made no difference.

    Can anyone help?

    Problem solved. desktop has been moved off centre to the left of the monitor.
