I have a problem with start button/task bar/tray locking up after running a few minutes to an hour, depending on what I'm doing. Dell tech can't identify cause. I'd like to know from anyone how to inquire whether Taskbar Repair Tool (available here per Google) is intended to fix this problem. The author's web site has no contact info or capability. Would appreciate guidance on where and how to ask the question. Running XP on Dell Dimension desktop, 1.8 GHz Intel, 60 Gb hard drive, 256 Mb mem.

It could be a memory problem. If you are running many processes, they are all competing for that 256 MB of memory. I had the same problem with a Compaq I had. Adding more memory alleviated the problem considerably. XP works best with a minimum of 512 MB of memory. It wouldn't hurt to check for spyware, either. How to check for spyware.

Yes I also believe it is a memory problem. Your best bet is too upgade your ram too 512mb as Just Playin suggested. Or you can limited the amount of applications that you are running since you only have 256mb ram.

SSDP Discovery and UPnP has been known to do wierd things with the task bar, along with Indexing, and Offline files.
