I am experiencing a major delay on after re-boot on my windows XP system. It gets through to my main screen OK and shows my desk top icons and such but then continues to run such that I can't access applications and time remains locked for 18-20 minutes before I get this error:

"Message Queuing Service has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

As soon as this message pop-up everything seems to return to normal.

My kids did have some serious malware on the laptop which has since been removed due to your marvelous forum.

Before the malware removal process I still had the delay on star-up but also had this message:

    "error loading c windows system32 mwmddsrv.dll"

I am guessing it may be a missing or corrupted file.

Any thoughts on how to best proceed would be very much appreciated.

http://majorgeeks.com/download4899.html I have found this program to be of help on XP systems after malware removal.:wave

This plus an sfc /scannow run from the command prompt.
Also, any yellow flags in your device manager? Right click on my computer, select properties, then hardware.
Any reports in the Event Viewer, (under administrative services in the control panel).

Unfortunately many times after malware removal reinstalling ends up being the fastest and easiest solution, but at least you've been given the opportunity to save your data files.
I was just working on a machine, wouldn't run either SAS or Root Kit tool, plus a handful of other quirky, slow issues. After screwing around with it for about 3 hours I figured it was time to use the recovery partition as the only data the owner finally decided he wanted was his email, and that was ISP based!
Also, this machine had been sold to him with Vista Home basic, 512M of ram! Terrible, he's getting more.:wave:wave

Thanks so much to you both for your kind and helpful replies. Will probably just remove what I need and reformat.

I am so thankful for all of the smart and kind people who post in these support forums. I am very lucky to have come across them.
