Start-up Problem - XP

I've fighting this problem for 2 months now...

Computer: Dell Dimension 4500 windows XP

When I start computer it takes alot of times of start,shutdown,start,shutdown until finally the computer boots. Then windows screen starts, then goes black w/ just mouse on screen, if you move mouse it jumps all over. If I reboot enough times it finally will let me start in safe mode.

I have run about 5 of the anti-virus and a number of trojan & worm program. All is clean.

I don't know what else to do???

Any advise???

 

After rebooting a bunch of times, it will let me start in safe mode. In safe mode it seams like its working fine...i'm on it right now.

Does not show any printers...I guess because in safe mode.

 

No error messages, i did have restore off in fact it has been off for a while, so i don't think i have any good configs to goto.

I just ran techfacts registry scan, not sure what to do now...it came up with a list of stuff, do I delete them???

 

If it boots into safe mode, that would surely indicate that you have a driver conflict.

Try and recall what you last installed or updated. Then simply uninstall it or roll-back the driver.

 

Is there some way to check for conflicts (software?)? I have no idea on some of them.

 

One more tidbit...When I reboot the lights on the keyboard flash (num,caps,scroll)...When they flash once it wont start, when they flash twice it will start. So I just keep rebooting until they flash twice, sometimes 15 or more times, SOMETIMES helps to unplug.

 

Is that you doing the shutdown or is it shutting down on it's own?

When it doesn't want to boot, exactly how far along does it get? In other words does it display anything on the screen, do you hear any beeps, does it get to where Windows starts to load?
