<SPAN style="COLOR: black">I have been having a problem for quite a while now and have not been able to find a solution. My operating system is Win98SE. 128M Ram HP pavilion with a Celeron processor. For no particular reason sometimes a set up screen comes up when starting the computer asking if I want to go into set up (F1) or continue (F2). When electing to continue it tells me the operating system is not found. A hard shut down with the off button re boots the system and it starts normally. Other times it starts normally the first time? Any ideas?

Sounds like the CMOS battery needs to be replaced. This battery is reponsible for providing power to the CMOS which keeps the BIOS level hardware configuration intact. If the battery goes dead, the configuration is lost and boot errors commonly appear until the config is updated either manually or if the BIOS is able to autoconfig (this usually requires 2 boots).
