My neighbor came to me looking for advice. He has a Dell PC that is 2 months past his warranty. He turned his PC off and now it will not turn on. I opened up his PC and there is green light on inside his motherboard. But when you hit the powerup button outside the box nothing happens. Is the motherboard gone, power supply or something else?

this may sound too obvious but is the power plug, plugged in? is the power strip turned on and connected to the outlet?

If there is a green light on, i would think it's plugged in.

true but it could be powered from the mobos battery ... i wouldn't have a clue otherwise ... hope someone else here has an idea

Might wanna find the manual for the case either calling Dell, or online somewhere, and find which pins on the motherboard are for the power switch.. maybe they got disconnected.

Battery on the mobo mainly deals with CMOS. Disconnect all the power coming into the PC for a few minutes then turn it back on... I had an instance where my POST stopped on my vid card check saying that It failed. Disconncected all power for a few minutes and it was fine.
