I recently installed I/O Malware Fighter and afterwards when I ran CCleaner, I discovered that it configured itself to start whenever the computer starts, despite not prompting me to do this. I have even had some programs configured to start whenever my computer boots up despite my stating no during the configuration of these programs.

It's not that I don't like these programs or don't want to run them, but I want to run them on my own choosing and not have my computer bogged down during the booting up phase.

Is there a way to prevent programs from configuring themselves to do this?

    Hi

A lot of these apps can reset the startup again when they update, its a pain at times, but try this and use StartupCPL and use its startup manager to disable the apps startup. I tend to delete the startups I dont want with CCleaner, but they can appear again for instance when you install Java again or iTunes they put startups back, a vast amount of apps do sadly.

If you have Vista or 7 then use the standalone version HERE

I would also advise against using msconfig to manage startups for reasons mentioned HERE
