I would love to speed up my computer. I do not save anything onto this computer so I'm not sure why it take so long to boot up. How can I minimize the programs loading at start up? What is essential to have on start up?
    Thanks for your time.

First you go to your start button and then to "RUN"
    Type msconfig and hit ok
    Choose the Startup tab
This displays most everything that starts with you boot up.
Very few of these items (if any) will be crucial to windows operating normally.
Simply uncheck any items that you are sure you are not using on a regular basis; hit the apply button and finally the ok button.
The computer will tell you it must reboot for these changes to take effect.
After it has rebooted you will be presented with a window that tells you that you have made changes. Uncheck the box asking if you want to run the configuration utility and you should be all set.
If you have disabled anything that windows (or any other program) needs it will either start it when you do need it or it will alert you that it needs to be started with windows.
If this happens you can simply do the process over again rechecking the needed items.

Even if you disable all the checkable startup items, windows should load fine.

    Mark is correct:
Firewall, Anti-Virus, Anti-Malware/Spyware should be started with windows

How would I go about attaching a text log or screenshot of the start up process?
    Thanks for the tips!

Sorry I am not sure about taking a screenshot when I cannot enlarge the screen. View attachment untitled1a.bmp I have another screenshot, but it was too large. I will try again.

For the record, I have been using MSCONFIG for many years and never have had any problem reinserting anything that has been unchecked.
You simply recheck the box and restart.

To delete the programs you mentioned, do I need to go into the Add/remove area or just disable them in the start up list?

Under task bar and start menus in the control panel, what should be checked?
It has 4 things checked under the start menu custom setting. What would you suggest for this? Does this effect speed?
    Thanks again!
