When I go to the start menu there's nothing in there but AOL tray icon, so how do I find out what is starting in start up?? Because my start up is taking way to long.

Thank you and have a great day !!

This items are also listed in the registry:

    HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run

    and

    HKCU\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run

If there's nothing listed there, then you don't have many startup items! If this is the case, you may want to consider disabling unnecessary services and visiting the malware removal thread.

Sadly Bazza it seems that they have gone over their alloted free bandwith quota ( noticed after my slow posting that you noticed too and suggested an alternative link ;) ), so to RainFalls.. if the link is still showing

then either try tomorrow or you can follow Mada's instructions in checking the run hives of the registry or you can use one of these tools to check your startups ( I would sometimes suggest msconfig for this but its more of a troubleshooting tool over a startup cleaner )

The Startup menu folder in Start > Programs, sadly does not list all of the startups that your PC will have running which is where these applications come in handy.

My fav easy registry utilities for checking startups etc

    CCLeaner
To check startups using this app, instal > run then click Tools > Startups and delete any in the list that you feel you dont need to startup at boottime ( do leave any security apps in that list )

    RegCleaner
again install and run then click > Startup List tab and tick any you wish to delete > Remove Selected ( they are backed up in case you need to add them back for any reason )

    Microsoft Windows Defender
Install > Run and click Tools > Software Explorer > in the drop down box make sure Startup Programs is listed and below will be listed all of the startups PLUS a description ( not in all cases ) of who makes or what the software is, you can either remove or disable. bonus with installing this app is that it helps protect you from malware.

    softwares above are FREE.
