Start-Up Shield and Small AV Program?

I used Webroot Spysweeper even after it expired because I loved the "shield" part of the program. However it's a memory hog, and the constant prompts to renew got irratating.
Is there a free, small (start-up and more) "shield" software out there?

Also, AVG is a good, but annoying free AV program, constanly doing something, windows poping up over others, with several AVG background apps working at the same time. I know it's free though.
Is there a small free AV program, that does its thing, and just leaves me alone?
I guess I just don't want to deal with the programs, just have them quietly running in the background, using minimal memory. I'm always running memory intensive A/V editing programs, and I don't like allot of other stuff working in the background?
Long Shot- Any program that shuts everything else down except the crucial program running at the time that requires allot of memory??

    Thanks

    Hi

    Which windows version BTW?

BoClean is a live resident malware guard but not a scanner so an on demand scanner would be recomended to do manual scans and SuperAntispyware is a good one for that as it only runs when you want to do a scan, to double check your system

Avast for AV would be my choice as its not that invasive daily, get the popup when an update of the definition files have been done and one to alert you to a new version ( can turn off the voice notifications too )
