You are referring to MSCONFIG and that is not something you should be using to control your start up's....you would be better off advised downloading a start up manager such as Start-up CPL available here at majorgeeks

Then if you are unsure of what to disable using start up CPL, please post screenshots of your start up's. Do you use Ccleaner? Because using that there's a handy method of going into "tools" > start up and from there you could take a screenshot and attach it here for one of us to look at.

Alright, when you start up go to Start>Run>MSConfig. Go to the Startup tab. I'm assuming you already know that as you said you weren't sure what boxes, but either way, just incase you didn't, that's where it's going to display the programs starting on start up. Uncheck anything that doesn't need to be started up on startup. I tend to leave my antivirus on, but I know a lot prefer to even take that off. If you're not sure what something is, google it. A lot of the time it'll provide a site that'll tell you exactly what the program is. If you're unsure about something, either leave it or post it here for someone to check for you, although most things can be unchecked. Good examples of stuff that doesn't need to start on startup are AIM, MSN, Yahoo messengers.

However MSConfig only displays certain things that start on startup. There's a lot of other stuff that isn't displayed. You're best to find a startup manager like Kestrel13 said. But if you just want to use MSConfig, that's how you do it.

I've exceeded the time to edit a post, disregard my post. I hadn't seen why not to use MSConfig and have never had a problem with it yet. After reading that, I see now why it's a horrible idea.

Thanks guys. Learn something new every day :)
