Why does an Acrobat.com window open when I first log on?

    Hi

Persistant issue with some installs of Acrobat Reader which also installs Acrobat.com AIR, but this should help with that http://www.adobe.com/go/kb407354

Uninstall any Adobe Products you have (except Flash or Shockwave) and install FoxIt Reader, you'll be much happier;)

When installing Foxit (which I use) read each screen carefully. You may need to uncheck boxes for toolbar(s) and other things. Especially in the new v3. Good luck. Foxit is mucho faster than bloated old Adobe.

How do I capture and post a screen shot?

By the way, there is portable version of FoxIt on it's website, so you don
t have to install it, just unzip and use.

Lev, thanks for the Screen Hunter; capture file should be attached. Halo, thanks for the scu fix, I got rid of the Acrobat AIR window (at startup).

Turns out the problem isn't fixed. When I used the scu to disable Adobe Update Mgr (which got rid of the Acrobat.com window at sartup) the scu goes into Selective Startup. If I choose Normal on the General tab, the Adobe Update Mgr is automatically enabled.

Don't click on normal. Leave it in Selective startup, and click on the "don't show this again" check box at startup, and forget about it.

No!! That is not the purpose of Selective startup. It is to be used to temporary disable items at start up, not permanently. That is why I posted the link to the StartUpCPL start up manager, so he can safely disable applications permanently from start up.

Please read this link for futher info http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=149804

Not meaning to be a smart*** Lev, but what difference does it make where it's disabled at? Nevermind...I missed your link, reading it now.

I used +/-Programs in CPL to uninstall acrobat.com, but the Acrobat.com window still opens at startup, although it looks different (See attach).

Lev, I'm using Startup CPL now. The tab HKLM doesn't have Adobe Update Mgr, but HKCU does. 1)Why is this? 2)Do I uncheck this Update Mgr in HKCU?

Another recurring window I want to resolve (see attach's).

That's because HKCU just affects that specific user profile. Yes, you can go ahead and uncheck it.

Lev, I used HKCO to disable that pesky and persistent Acrobat.com window at startup. Thanks to all who responded.

Another window is haunting me now. The "QuickPlay Resident program" problem window (please see attachments, post #19). What's with this and what do you suggest?

Please forgive my ignorance; as a geek padawan, I'm just learning this site and greatly appreciate it. I posted 4 days ago, to this thread, with no response so far (post #21). I hope I haven't offended... or perhaps my question was too trivial... and I'm sure everyone is very busy. Just let me know and I'll get better... thanks. :-o

howard51, you need to open up Startup Control Panel and go through the tabs: Startup(user), Startup(common), HKLM / Run and HKCU / Run and uncheck/untick any items that seem to be creating popups or tray icons that you don't want.

From the three screenshots, I see you need to disable HP Quick play.
