I have just upgraded my laptop with a new hdd and a new os windows 7 ultimate, on first boot i got a message saying that... "Realtek rtl8111b/8168b ethernet controller V1.60c pxe-e53 no boot file recieved"...i get this message whilst i have the rj45 cable in.

I get this message when cable is out...."pxe-e61 media failure check cable"....

It still boots into my os and loads fine, ethernet works fine, system is all ok apart from what is happening on start up.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!
    Regards From Iain.

Hi thanks for the speedy response.

Device manager says that i have Realtek PCIe GBE Family controller and Realtek RTL8187 Wireless 802.11b/g netwok adapter.
    both are working fine.

Not much to help us there. You could try uninstalling the former by right clicking it in Device Manager and then scanning for hardware changes from the Action menu.

Hi just been reading elsewhere and the promblem seems to be that i have changed the order in which way my system boots up..... with the new install of the os i have read that it changes boot from hdd to cd and that i have to go into the bios and change it back!!! any help on a walk through on getting into to the bios and changing settings would be grateful.

Complete red herring I'm afraid. There cannot be any connection at all between the BIOS boot order and your error message. Try the uninstall I suggested above and leave the BIOS as it is. In any case you want the BIOS boot order to be CD first, then HD. That's normal.

Hi thanks again.... done as you requested uninstalled and scanned for hard ware changes, system restored the same uninstalled driver.

I suspect the problem will be that there is no Windows 7 driver for your Ethernet adapter, and it is using what it thinks is a near fit. If the network connection is ok you will either have to live with it or try to get a new adapter.

Thanks for your help. I have managed to resolve the issue by changing boot sequence in Bios... bios was booting up via network!!! so changed to HDD... HeyPresto!!!!! alls good once again.
Again Thanks very much for your offer of help and assistance.
    Best Regards Iain.

Well done, and thanks for the feedback :) You might want to set the boot order to DVD then HDD in case you ever need to use a boot disk, but you can always override the default if necessary.
