Started in Malware forums asked to move here.

I need a help with a friends laptop. I thought it had a virus or malware but the the malware fighters suggest I post here.
The laptops CPU is maxed out 78-100%
The memory is at 3.56 out of 4 GB

We were thinking it was the antivirus software ,ZA,they had an older version. The old version was uninstalled per Zonealarm. Reinstalled current version to see if that would help. No luck.

Uninstalled it again but did not reinstall still have have the same issue.

Watching Task manger I can see both CPU and Memory climb to max in about 10 min.

If I toggle off the wireless on the laptop the cpu drops back to what i would call normal about 3-10%.

The Ram stays about 3 and
The process that is eating up the CPU and Ram is explorer.exe NO user name and NO description.

chas asked about torrnet or down loaders only thing I see is drop box maybe?

Any scans I can do to trouble shoot?

Open Windows Task Manager, Maximise it, click Processes, click Memory. Take a snapshot and upload it.

FYI explorer.exe must have a User Name and Description.

Click on the explorer.exe without 'User Name' and 'Description', and then click 'End Process'.

If everything disappears* from the Desktop (Windows Task Manager wont), you can restart explorer.exe by clicking File, New Task (Run...), type explorer.exe, click OK.

*This should not happen, because there is an instance of explorer.exe running.

Also, have a look at the Startup programs, take a snapshot and post it.
