    1. Can anyone tell me what this symbol (screenshot) means, please?

i'll hold-off on my 2nd question for now, and attempt to further research it - thanks in advance . . . .

PS - Windows 8 is discriminatory against older people and people with minor disabilities.

Thank you...since I'm on a wireless "network" (at home), does that mean the symbol is an error, of some sort, please?

Thanks again..but yeah, 8 is (for me) an absolute nightmare, and I am simply trying now, to find the "My Computer" section that has been (was!?!) in the Start Area of EVERY Windows OS that I've ever dealt with.

It occurs to me that some sort of class-action suit against Microsoft, to SIMPLY get THEIR PAYING-CUSTOMERS BACK to 7 (with-OUT any third-party program involved) is in order.

Thank you oma...I too Googled it, but apparently (obviously) didn't look deep-down enough in the results (thanks again!!

Thanks..not exactly sure what "OS X atm" is (Apple/Mac?), but I am now realizing that I can access/find some things by utilizing the Win+C keys...

I did try a start menu replacement (Classic Shell - http://www.classicshell.net/ ), it was "okay", I suppose, and likely serves many folks well, but was not what I bought a new machine for... just didn't care for that approach.

The Win key is something new for me..so perhaps after I "get used-to-it" ("if" I get-used-to it), I will appreciate it more!

Try Win+D (hide everything, show Desktop)
    Win+E (File Explorer)
    Win+F (find)
    Win+L (log off)
    Win+R (Run)
and my favorite Win+X (for all that 'where the heck can it be' stuff)

Relax a bit and start trying a few things. You might even get to like it - or maybe not ;)
