starting over

Trying to get my old dell desktop, running windows me, back in service. I disconnected it from the internet because of many problems. Now, I'd like to get rid of any viruses or spyware that may be on it before I try to get hook up to the internet. Im using my laptop now. Is there a way I can check out the system without getting on the internet or will I have to try to get hooked up to the internet first? I was on DSL going through Linksys wireless G router and the 2Wire system with Bellsouth. Can you give me any guideance? Would appreciate a direction to follow. Thanks!

When all else Fails and sometimes it's easier, Just Reformat & Reinstall your OS

 

I think I would like to reformat and reinstall. What is the best way to do this? I will try to get on my desktop and do it. Having electricity problems, Hurricane Katrina came through. Thanks for the reply.
