ok after christmas when i get some money i'm gonna get my inherited laptop online. as mentioned in an earlier post it has no ethernet so its gonna go wireless!

i've looked at linksys and d-link but haven't looked at other brands yet. the thing that must be taken into consideration is that i need a router that will be compatible with a cable modem. have seen this one on rlsupplies - http://www.rlsupplies.co.uk/products/product.asp?id=2373

also, if i do go with linksys would it be advisable to get a linksys pcmcia card or will any other cheaper brand be ok?

    any suggestions/comments glady welcomed...

Cat5e, Good reference. I knew alot in theory. This article provided real-world facts. Big difference. I fear I perpetuated some marketing hype about wireless, and now am the wiser. Thanks.

I just switched from Linksys to Netgear after having quite a few problems with my Linksys equipment. With linksys I had a lot of disconnect problems and the range wasnt very good. I also had to reset the router quite often. The Netgear has a much better range and is faster as well. HTH.
