startup error messages

When I startup and log on, I get two error messages.

First one:
"windows cannot find C:WINDOWS\System32\services\services\.exe" Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again. To search for a file, click the start button, and click search"

next one:
"could not load or run "C:\WINDOWS\System32\services\services.exe" specified in the registry. Make sure the file exists on your computer or remove the reference to it in the registry"

I've found the file but what do they mean by remove the reference to it in the registry?

In the registry look for HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
and
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
and see what are under these keys. If you find the services.exe file you want to remove mentioned in these keys then delete it from the registry. But make sure you have backed up your registry first because playing in there can be dangerous.

This really sounds like an infection of some sorts. I've seen the same error with the about:blank hijacker.

It wouldn't hurt to go to the Spyware Forum first and follow their recommendations to rule that out before you do anything else.
