Suddenly it takes forever to start my computer. Other than Zone Alarm, are there other items I can remove? Is there anything else I can do to speed up this process or find out why this is suddenly happening?

The only things I allow on Start-up is my firewall, 2 antispyware (realtime) and my internet connection.
Everything else gets started as needed.

Also, when was your last defrag?

    What defrag do you use?
    What is the current percentage?
Do you have any scans or updating on a bootup schedule?

If you want help, you are going to have to make the startup box larger so people can read it.

I can see that - thanks but it is only showing the first 12 items. How many items do you have listed in startup?
    1. NVcpl has to do with your display adapter but this (control panel) doesn't need to run at startup
    2. Iaanotif is Intel"s application accelerator notifier - not sure so keep
    3. ISUSPM install shield automatic updater don't need it at startup
    4. issch install shield updater not needed at startup
    5. ccapp is part of Noron AV. If you run Norton this needs to run at startup
    6. VPTray is part of Norton but it doesn't need to run at startup. You can get to Norton thru the program listing.
    7. and 8. zlclient I don't think you should have two instances of Zone Alarm running
    9. ? I think I have one of these with no name
    10. ctfmon - a file that is installed with Office XP applications
    this site http://www.pchell.com/support/ctfmon.shtml
has directions on how to remove the language bar and get ctfmon off the computer.
    11. same as #3. I don't think you should have two of these running
    12. aim6 I'm going to assume this is AOL's IM v6
since I don't do IMing, I don't know if it needs to be on at startup.
I'd think to speed things up, you'd stop it from starting up with the computer and fire it up when you want it.

I think just buy looking at the shot without even reading it, it's obvious you have about 20 processes starting up that don't need to be and probably causing the problems.
I have 20 starting up with mine and I could eliminate 7 of those if I wasn't so lazy.
I couldn't see it but MSN/windows live is a cpu killer if you have it starting up with your pc.

For a nice clear picture of what is starting up , download and install this

    http://www.download.com/ccleaner/

Max the screen and goto Tools, startup, it will clearly show a nice big easy to read list of whats what.

Thnaks for the good advice. The items not seen in my attachment have all been disabled. I will disable the others as you suggested and come back if there is still a problem. Thanks again!

Another word of advise, do not disable your startup items using msconfig.
Get startup control panel and do it through that program.
    http://majorgeeks.com/Startup_Control_Panel_Standalone_Version_d4359.html
You simply check/tick or uncheck/untick to stop things from running at startup. There will be 6 tabs in the program. You look at most. You can ignore run once, deleted and about tabs.
