I was wondering if someone could help me with this a startup problem I have. I was cleaning up my startup list using ccleaner, and despite the warnings about not having a backup, I still removed an entry without knowing what it did. I think its name was something like "cideamon" and I think it had something to do with the indexing service. Apparently it is needed because certain other programs won't start up properly without it. I need to know how to get it back on the startup list. Thanks

Try going to start / run / and type "sfc /scannow" without qoutes ..it will prompt you to put in the xp cd ...run it at least twice. Tell us what happens.

PS...I've moved this thread to software.

Thank you for responding. I might mention that I am running XP. I did run "sfc /scannow", twice. It took about 20 minutes each time. It said it verified that all protected Windows files are intact and in their original version. It did not prompt for the disk. It just went away when it was done. Now what?

    Let's try another:
Start / run / type "services.msc" without the quotes ....scroll down to indexing service (see if it is there) ...right click it and set it to auto or start if it is stopped and if found.

Okay. It was stopped, manual. Changed to auto, and started it.

Con't from last post... Restarted after starting indexing service and the other startup items still don't start. I get all kinds of warnings that the apps failed, etc. Which is the same as before.
Using the search function on my computer, it came up with 4 'cidaemon' files.
    "C:\I386\CIDAEMON.EX_"
    "C:\WINDOWS\I386\CIDAEMON.EX_"
    "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\cidaemon.exe"
    "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\dllcache\cidaemon.exe"
I tried to run the exe in the command prompt and it told me this is part of the Ci Filter Service and cannot be run standalone.
Am I even barking up the right tree here?
