    Hello folks..

I'm hoping the screenshot tells the story (as seen in WinPatrol), as I've never seen this "~Disa" program before, and have no idea what it is or what to do with it?

    Anyone familiar with it, please?

    Thanks in advance,
    glenn

    Not familiar with it.

No file path exists..so basically, it's a remnant of something that was once on the system.

Has the same icon as Win Patrol though ???

    You're welcome.

I edited my post. It looks like it has the same icon as WinPatrol so maybe it's part of WinPatrol? I don't know, Autoruns would help in this situation IMO.

I have Autoruns somewhere on this machine (if I can only find it now?) . . . I had just downloaded it the day before I downloaded WinPatrol as Autoruns appeared to be over my head...

Will see if I can find it and...I don't know..."look in it"?

I can help you review the AutoRuns log if you need help analyzing it. Just attach it here or post the parts that you are unsure about.

okay, that'd be great, thank you, but i'm failing here...can't seem to figure-out how to attach it...i think i need to save it somehow (tried saving as text but that wouldn't work), but not sure what to do?

    Am continuing to try though....

    Here you go ;)

http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/6738/autoruns.gif Download Autoruns by SysInternals to your desktop.
    • See the download links under this icon: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/chaslang/images/MGDownloadLoc.gif
    • Create a folder on your desktop called "autoruns"
    • Extract the contents of the Autoruns.zip file into the autoruns folder you created.
    • Now open this folder by double-clicking it.
    • Now double-click autoruns.exe to run. (Vista and Win7 right-click and select Run as administrator)
Note: Autoruns will automatically start scanning your system for autorun entries. This process is typically finished within 15 seconds.
    • When you see Ready at the bottom-left corner of the Autoruns program, the scan is complete.
    • Now click File > Save
    • Change the Save as type: to Text (*.txt)
    • Save AutoRuns.txt to your desktop or another location you can easily access it.
    • Attach AutoRuns.txt to your next message. (How to attach items to your post)

I would have thought I could follow this, but I don't see (and can't find) an option to extract..?

It looks like it is already extracted/decompressed.

Now just double-click autoruns.exe and continue with the rest of the steps.

I have a dreadfully sick feeling that this is not what I'm supposed to be seeing at this point??

Opening the autoruns file pictured here should not have resulted in a registry patch. You have another folder on your desktop named autoruns but a Autoruns.reg should not be in it and I have no idea what you merged into the registry just now.

more often than not i just seem to go 90-degrees in the wrong direction with these compressed/zipped/whatever files, that i just simply do not understand.

I guess I opened ("merged"?) this (the red, instead of the green?)?

Could ccleaner Registry cleaner maybe clear this up?

    Looks like it.

    Most likely yes.

Okay, thanks..I have run ccleaner (including the Registry "cleaner" feature).

I would really like to try again sometime soon, to get my Startup situation under control.

I very much miss (almost desperately so, at this point) Startup CPL http://www.majorgeeks.co/Startup_CPL_d619.html which I had with XP...it was pretty simple, straightforward, and best of all - worked!

Yes I liked that tool too. Autoruns may seem overwhelming at first so just try to stick with one tab at a time. There is a "Logon" tab within the program which should show the same information that CPL Startup or MSConfig (Startup), would have. ;)

    Regards.
