Startup problem

I have a Toshiba Satellite L650 Laptop.Every once in a while it freezes at the startup page.I have deleted all my extra software but no change.Can you help?

Which startup page are we freezing on--what do you see on the screen when it freezes?

I was thinking it might have been a problem with freezing on the Toshiba splash screen. I don't have any good advice for freezing on the Windows Welcome screen.

Perhaps running a chkdsk to look for and correct filesystem errors would rule out a problem with Vista reading one of the necessary files?

Try going to Computer>right-click on the C: drive and select Properties>then under the Tools tab, Select Check for Errors>Tick both boxes and click OK. It will schedule to run chkdsk at your next bootup. If it finds any errors it will correct them.

In safe mode I can go to last good startup and its ok

If it is freezing on the Toshiba screen and going no further that is often caused by a faulty DVDROM that confuses the BIOS which is trying to identify the laptop's hardware and then pass that information to Windows so that Windows can start.

I just want to be sure we are talking about the same screen. You power on your computer then a Toshiba screen comes up for 30 seconds or so then screen goes black for a second and then some message about Windows starting comes up then 30 seconds or so later a Welcome screen with your user icon comes up for you to sign in. At which screen is the laptop freezing and what do you have to do to proceed?

Try chkdsk to rule out a filesystem problem.
