Not sure if this is where I should post this. My brother just gave me his computer which was loaded with XP. I connected my own monitor and turned it on. It brings up the Dell start up logo then shows it loading XP then the screen turns to static. I can hear the hard drive trying to do something but nothing ever happens. I tried putting my XP disk in to try to reload it and hard booted it but nothing. Any suggestions?

Suggest you try booting to Safe Mode then remove any monitor drivers that were there for your brothers monitor.
