    hi guys.

I've been using winpatrol for a few days now, i'm glad it does a good job but the only downside is that it does not have an option for it to remember your choices expecially when programs try to set themselves to startup in real time . the annoyance is that i have to keep selecting an option for a particular program a few times a session. can anyone recommend a similar program with similar features, but one i can set to remember my choice every time a program requests to set itself for startup

    thanx guys

StartUp 0.1.1.0 is probably the easiest to use. It allows you to add/edit/disable/remove start-up items from the easy to use user interface. A lot of people like this one because it offers detailed information about many [but not all] of your start-up items right on the program's interface. And the HELP files explain everything you need to know about start-up items.

The one mentioned earlier: Startup Control Panel 2.8 - [Standalone Version] is a simple control panel applet that allows you to easily configure which programs run when your computer starts. Startup Control Panel is compatible with all versions of Windows OS.

Most people like using Startup Control Panel because it's easy-to-use and straightforward, very small and won't burden your system. About the only 'drawback' I can see is that there are no HELP files or details about the start-up items listed.

For more experienced users Autoruns is simply the best freeware startup helper out there and is small [only 210 Kb]. This utility shows you what programs are configured to run during system bootup or login. These programs include ones in your startup folder, Services, Run, RunOnce, and other Registry keys.

You can highlight an entry and click the "jump to" button to launch Regedit with the selected entry. In addition to startup programs, Autoruns also displays a list of Services, Scheduled Tasks, Winsock Providers, and Internet Explorer BHOs and more - each of them can also be enabled/disabled.

    Important Note Regarding Autoruns:
If you've never used Autoruns before; be sure to carefully read the HELP files prior to using this utility because it was designed for advanced users and [unlike the other two I mentioned earlier] Autoruns allows you to disable a few things that might make some programs run differently, incorrectly or not at all – i.e. Explorer shell extensions, toolbars, browser helper objects, Win logon notifications, auto-start services.
