Startup wanting to install old software

I am running XP. I just installed Norton Security 2010 and Norton Utilities. All went well during the installation. I ran the Norton Utilities Cleanup procedures. Now whenever I start the computer it wants to install an upgrade for a device I no longer have on the machine (specifically a CD drive). I have to cancel it about five times and it then gives up. It was not doing it prior to the installation of Norton So apparantly a flag or marker showing the upgrade had been done got removed.

I have searched for anything related to the product name and driver name with no luck.

Any suggestions on how to find and remove the link which is trying to execute will be greatly appreciated.

If that doesn't work, you might try reinstalling the drive (sounds like it's asking for a firmware update), then uninstalling again with its own uninstaller (if present) or with Revo: sometimes, removal routines miss registry entries concerning updates...

For that matter, you might try cleaning the registry if Revo doesn't do the trick...

 

Or if you look in your device manager and see a yellow flag for a device you no longer have, double click on it and choose disable the device.
I know this is a little sloppy and I would try the other solutions first, but as a last resort, I've had this work for me.
