Hi:wave I've started getting the occasional "low on virtual memory" message, so I came here to see what you all had to say. I know very little about how my computer does what I ask it to every day and am really grateful for this site. You were so helpful with some issues I had last year, and have also really educated me on what I need to be doing maintenance-wise for my computer. Thanks!

So, I've read a few threads on this problem and have tried to start following some advice you have given others.

Here is some info that was asked for from others:

Windows XP ver. 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600

    Tot. physical memory: 1,024 MB
    Av. physical memory: 621 MB
    Tot. Virtual memory: 2 GB
    Av. Virtual memory: 1.96 GB

I've attached a screenshot of the startup list from CCleaner and am hoping someone can tell me what I can get rid of. I noticed this list is slightly different from the list given in the system summary - is that OK?

Also, I am wondering if anyone would be able/willing to tell me what programs I might be able to uninstall if I attach a list.....any takers?:)

I don't really do all that much on my computer - internet, photo editing, photoshop. It does seem to get pretty bogged down at times, very slow opening/closing windows/programs. I would really like to get rid of all the crud that's never used and taking up space, and do whatever else I can to speed things up as much as possible.

Thanks in advance - you all are great and very patient with us non-"geeks":)

First here is a great little app:

You can disable your unwanted startups, check to see how things are running, and then delete them from your startup. If you decide you want to add them back into your startups, it keeps track of the ones you have deleted, so they can be added back in. It also integrates into your Control Panel.
CCleaner (which is a great app,) lacks the ability to create a backup of your startups.

You should be able to safely remove the ones I've marked. There are a few others, but that is your preference. The kbd.exe is removed from my startup because I don't use the extra multi-media keys on my keyboard. Some, I don't know the function of. (mainly the ones linked to your system32)

Basically you only need your anti-virus, your firewall, and any apps that you personally want running at startup.

Thanks for the link Musksnipe, I'll definitely give it a try. I also appreciate you taking a look at my list and marking some things for me to get rid of. I guess it IS a pretty individual thing - no one really knows what someone else may use. I'll give those you marked a try and see how it goes.:)

    Thanks again!
