I have suddenly gotten a starwebsearch toolbar, no matter where I search I only find a yahoo fix for google chrome and a spyware remover that is a paid version. I have the recomended programs from here, that didnt block it.

I can just not use it it is in the upper right hand corner of my explorer and firefox browsers. It doesnt show in my control panel and doesnt seem to cause any other problems unless I accedently use it to search and then it doesnt search properly it is just a nucence I would just like to remove it in a simple way. Is there an easy fix to just go in and take it out with out a bunch of work with a bunch of high jack issues?

    Thanks

    Renee

In both FF and IE, go to view / toolbars and remove it.

It shows to the right of my google bar. When I go to VIEW and Tool bars I dont get the option to remove that individual tool bar

and my bad, it isnt on firefox... i have an FVD toolbar on firefox... I really dont want that one either... but I think im just going to uninstall FVD to rid myself of that one

oh and just fyi when I do a search on my computer I can't find hide nor hair of the starsearch

Also search on: (Maybe use another PC, for best results)

    and
    star websearch toolbar removal

Note the slightly different search criteria, for lots of other links.

PS: Are you a Google Chrome user?
If so, maybe uninstall Google Chrome temporarily.

I saw that, I have google chrome, but I am not using it, so that doesnt work, I will try opening it, and see if I use that remover if it takes it off my explorere and reply... if not I will try uninstalling.

Revo Uninstaller is a great Removal/Uninstaller program, if you don't already know. :) It works, uninstalling most programs, but not all.

Great rating, out of a possible 5.00 :cool

I uninstalled google chrome and rebooted, the star websearch bar is still on my explorer window to the right of my regular google search bar. When I downloaded your recommended removal program it doesnt show star websearch as a removable program.

    :(

One thing you might want to try in Chrome select Options>basics. Then in the default search list make sure that star websearch is not listed. If it is, delete it using the manage button.

If that does not work, do a scan with SlimComputer. It may detect your toolbar.

    i have uninstalled google chrome
the drop down on the magnifying glass shows me that it is my only search provider even though it is secondary on the right and when I try to remove it it is greyed out
    remove button is greyed out
and not available is in the colum to remove it.
It also says not available in addint other search providers!

Is there a simple way I can go in command promp and get rid of this
    Or regedit?
I just dont want to go through all the highjack crap just to get rid of this toolbar!

my microsoft security isnt finding it as offensive or my malewarebites or spybot but I hate it when I accidently type in it to look for something and get that igorant page and I think it is slowing my computer down.

I just want it gone! It says google-feed.net in the box.

I found this in my documents and settings folders when searching google-feed.net instead of starwebsearch

    Code:

      </SearchPlugin>
oops sorry its in this folder
    C:\Documents and Settings\Renee\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\uq8cuw1n.default\searchplugins\GoogleFeed.xml

so why is it in my explorer and not my firefox?

I used the slim tools and it found the tool bar, and it had high jacked all the applications I had installed on my google like protection and such... nothing was installed on my standard google...
But when I tried to remove that toolbar, it would say 'nothing selected'
it would only let me remove things associated with it. it called it a browser... not a toolbar.
It sees it as its own search engine!
and that is how it defines itself as my default search provider!

found someone else who got this and how they got it and it seems to be a new threat, so everyone look out!

In your ADD/Remove programs, is there an application called SaveTubeVideo? If so, I would remove it.

there was a youtube download plug in that I had installed via firefox that I have already uninistalled, additionally when I open a second tap on my google toolbar, the adress that defaults in the searchbox is C:\Program Files\YoutubeDownloader.org\YoutubeDownloader\index.htm but the page is a cannot be displayed page (this only happens when I try to open a NEW tab from an existing page) when I open intenet explorer fresh it opens to google.

first I have done that before, it never seems to help, it hasn't effected my bookmarks in the past, but just incase, where would I export them to?

    tgell! THAT WORKED
    I LOVE YOU!
It changed the google-feed star web search that was set to greyed out
disabled when I tried to change it to
MICROSOFT LIVE SEARCH with ENABLED if I want to change it!

I guess my microsoft security essentials had blocked it from being a complete overtaking and only given it that tool bar as a nuisance so as long as I didnt use it it didnt infect me... I'm glad I noticed it as a problem and came to you all to nip it in the bud!

You as usual rock my world Major geeks!

    MWAH!
BTW changing to default didnt even wipe my favorites... so I am going to delete the exported bookmarks from my desktop now, but thanks for the heads up on saving them before hand just incase! I have a ton, so I woulda been bummed if they were gone :)

Well, I just found out, that since I eradicated it from explorer, it has jumped to firefox! It wasnt on there before!

I have removed all plug-ins with the exception of java script from firefox now, firefox doesnt have the same properties as explorer when returning to defaults, it just basically resets the homepage... it didnt restore the privacy and the security and all that jazz so the google feed thing is still there, any ideas for this one?

I'm ready to punch my computer now! LOL

Nevermind, firefox wasn't as hardcore as explorer, on the drop down it simply let me select and remove it and it made google my default...
    crisis averted!
I was just ready to go into fight mode after the explorer episode!
