IF I turn my volume up playing winamp the mp3,s are sounding scratchy and have static. But also if I am not playing any music and with the volume up on my speakers I still hear the scratchy and static sound. Also when I just move the mouse around on the desktop I get a like a buzzing sound. I just seemed to have this problem recently. I Have the latest drivers fror my sound card.

It could be picking up interference from something like an electrical device or a wireless/cell phone.

how high do you have the volume set in you Os if it is high try lowering it to see if that helps any or try another pci slot on your board.

Have you checked the CD Audio volume in Volume Control?
Muteing it fixed that problem on my PC. My soundcard has an analogue connection to my Lite-On 52x32x52 CD-R/RW, I think it's a hardware bug on some drives, but I could be wrong. It might also be that the analogue cable is on backwards. I don't know though. But muteing the CD Audio fixes the problem and CD's still play for some reason. meh..
